Rotogravure printing is a method of intaglio printing in which an image is engraved on a printing plate and the ink is transferred to paper or other material by a printing press.

The process of engraving and printing can be simply described as the following steps:

First, the designer transfers the image or text to a computer, where it is processed and edited using special software. Then, the processed image is transferred to a photosensitive resin-coated printing plate. This coating is light sensitive and forms a hardened pattern when exposed to ultraviolet light.

Next, the plate goes through a washing and drying process that washes away the unexposed parts, leaving only the hardened pattern. This pattern creates a series of grooves that store ink. The printing plate is then mounted on the press and ink is added to the ink tank above the printing plate.

When the printing press starts working, it feeds the paper or other material over the printing plate, applying pressure. Ink fills the grooves in the plate, while excess ink on the surface is scraped off with a scraper. This way, only the ink in the grooves is transferred to the paper, forming an image or text.

Due to the features of gravure, engraving printing can achieve high-quality printing results. It produces detailed images and crisp text, while also achieving rich colors and glossy effects. In addition, engraving printing also has high production efficiency and printing speed.
